A bitter legal battle between Depp and his former managers Joel and Robert Mandel of The Management Group (TMG) has seen both sides try to dodge the blame over Johnny's profligate spending, and the latest papers claim the actor paid 'hundreds of thousands of dollars' to employ a sound engineer.
"Depp insisted that this sound engineer be kept on yearly retainer so that he no longer had to memorise his lines," the documents suggest.
But Johnny's lawyer has hit back at the claims, describing them to the BBC as "psychobabble".
"This is how guilty people respond when confronted with the detailed results of a nine-month legal and forensic investigation conducted by four firms," said Adam Waldman.
The legal battle started when Johnny sued his ex-managers for fraud after firing them in March 2016, but TMG are now counter-suing, insisting that they "did everything possible to protect Depp from his own irresponsible and profligate spending".
Among the claims that have already arisen from the increasingly acrimonious lawsuit are that Johnny spent a huge $3million to blast author Hunter S Thompson's ashes out of a specially made cannon, that he splashed $18million on an 150-foot yacht and $4 million on a failed record label.
There are also allegations he spent $30,000 a month on wine, $200,000 a month on private planes, $150,000 a month on round-the-clock security, and $300,000 a month to maintain a staff of 40 people.
Dismissing Johnny's insistence that the monthly wine money was used to "invest" in pricey bottles of vintage wine, lawyers for TMG said:
"Depp would be hard pressed to find a single bottle of wine that he purchased during his tenure with TMG that he or his various companions have not yet consumed.Wine is not an investment if you drink it as soon as you buy it."
