Asylum seeker attacked Facebook bride with hammer when she forgot to cook his dinner

An asylum seeker who married a British woman he'd met on Facebook attacked her with a hammer when she forgot to cook his dinner.

Mohsin Akram, 21, launched a terrifying attack on his wife while drunk - leaving her bruised all over with multiple injuries.

A court heard that as he hit her with the hammers - and she begged him to stop - he was heard to shout: "You've had your chance to be a good wife!"

It further heard that Akram treated his wife Mariam Hussain, 20, as a prisoner in her own home - and she said today that she always knew an attack was coming but didn't imagine it would involve hammers.
He forbid her from leaving the house alone, owning a mobile phone or having access to the Internet or social media.
But - despite jailing him for 15-months today after hearing he also had a history of attacking his wife - the judge chose not to exercise her deportation powers and send Akram back to Pakistan.

Furious Mrs Hussain is now calling on the Home Office to review his asylum status once he is released from prison.

A court heard Miss Hussain had fallen asleep at around 10pm on December 23 and woke three hours later when Akram returned home drunk and in a rage.

Prosecuting, Stephen Donoghue said:
"The prosecution say he was expecting her to have made him food. That was the genesis for the argument that ensued.
"The prosecution say he completely lost his temper and started to talk about teaching her a lesson, how to be a good wife."He then picked up one of the hammers and began hitting her, she put her arms above her head to protect herself.
"The prosecution say that she was pleading with him to stop, telling him that he was hurting her.
"He said 'you've had your chance to be a good wife'."
